In Which The Whingers Reveal Doctor Who’s New Look…

After months of speculation, this weekend saw the unexpected announcement that Matt Smith is to take over from the David (back injury) Tennant* as the new Doctor Who.

Andrew (who famously doesn’t do telly) cares about such matters. But, despite being sure that Mr Smith will no doubt prove an excellent choice, the Whingers’ own casting department had been barking up all the wrong trees.

Review – Swimming with Sharks with Christian Slater, Vaudeville Theatre

It’s unusual for the Whingers to be asked to anything these days. Andrew never got invited to anything anyway but persists in inviting all his Facebook “friends” to any feast that moves in in a deluded hope they will reciprocate.

So when an invitation came for the Whingers to go and review Swimming with Sharks Andrew found there was no diary to be cleared as he already had more windows than The Gherkin.

Why we now quite like Christian Slater

Not that we didn’t before particularly. It’s just not something that we had ever got around to thinking about.

Anyway, this piece by Hugo Rifkind in  The Times diary pages quite tickled us:

To Swimming with Sharks, the West End play about the immorality of Hollywood, starring Christian Slater, right, and Helen Baxendale. At the aftershow party, Slater is in conversation with a keen rival diarist from a Sunday newspaper. “Didn’t you see the show?” says Slater. “No,” says the rival diarist. “We got a standing ovation at the interval,” lies the actor, deadpan enough to win an Oscar. Then he turns to us. “It was amazing, wasn’t it?” “Yes,” we agree, after a moment’s pause, and the diarist departs, scribbling. We are bad people, we at People. Sorry.
