Phil is thrilled to discover that Patti LuPone may be coming to London next year in a revival of Kander and Ebb’s The Rink.
The 1984 original production starred Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli. It didn’t do very well and none of the songs have graduated to classic status (see songlist). In fact, Andrew has never heard of any of them.
But what the hell. As long as they don’t do a Cabaret on it, should be worth a pop.

I rather like the score to The Rink, but then I’m a sucker for Kander and Ebb in general! ‘The Apple Doesn’t Fall’ is a great comic duet, ‘Marry Me’ is very sweet indeed and the title song is one of those that you can’t get out of your head for ages – very ‘sticky’. I haven’t seen it, though, so goodness knows what it’s like in production!

The 80s London cast recording of The Rink is actually rather good – Diane Langton & Josephine Blake did a great job

Yes I saw it.
Liked them but not the show particularly.
But will be interesting to see what they do with it.
