Review – Europe at the Barbican Pit

Thursday 29 March 2007

Europe by David Greig at the Barbican Conversation between Helen and Andrew leaving the auditorium during the interval of Europe at the Barbican Pit:

  • Helen: My friend goes to the theatre a lot with her mother and they have this understanding. During the interval, one may say to the other, “Do we care, darling?”
  • Andrew: I don’t think we need to go to all that trouble, do we?

Before leaving, I wonder if you glanced at the programme for this play. Normally, a programme will print the cast list first, followed by a list of the production team — director, designer, sound and lighting.

In this programme, the list was printed the other way round. There was scarcely a pretence that the play itself was worth doing, or that the actors had any contribution to make. The entire production was intended to give the director and designers a chance to play with AN ENORMOUS TRAIN SET.

do you happen to have the cast list that you could write out for me? It was to late to buy the program when I left, so I would really appreciate it.

  3. Goodness! Where would I begin finding a theatre programme from a year ago? I can’t find my keys and I only had them in my hand five minutes ago.
