You can’t have too many Maggie Smith anecdotes, can you?

Wednesday 8 August 2007

Our thanks to actress Kathleen Turner for providing us with this new Dame Maggie Smith story.

It’s not a big one, but  a carat’s a carat, isn’t it?

An interview with Turner turns to the subject of directors and to specifically to Anthony Page who was to direct Turner in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? on stage.

Turner decided to check out what kind of director Page would be like to work with:

I called up Maggie Smith and said, “You’ve worked with Anthony, what’s the lowdown?” And she said, “Oh darling, he’s wonderful. He does everything I tell him.”
