Why we now quite like Christian Slater

Saturday 20 October 2007

Not that we didn’t before particularly. It’s just not something that we had ever got around to thinking about.

At the aftershow party, Slater is in conversation with a keen rival diarist from a Sunday newspaper. “Didn’t you see the show?” says Slater. “No,” says the rival diarist. “We got a standing ovation at the interval,” lies the actor, deadpan enough to win an Oscar. Then he turns to us. “It was amazing, wasn’t it?” “Yes,” we agree, after a moment’s pause, and the diarist departs, scribbling. We are bad people, we at People. Sorry.
