Zero Stars Hall of Fame update: Flamen’ka

Wednesday 24 September 2008

Exciting news. A zero stars review for Flamen’ka at the Apollo by Sarah Frater of whom we have never heard but we like her already.

Ms Frater is actually a dance critic for the Evening Standard so it’s debatable whether or not she should be inducted into the WEW Zero Stars Hall of Fame, but we’ll let it pass as it’s on at the Apollo.

Here’s a snippet:

“The acting was universally woeful, and the two brothers looked more like EastEnders’ Grant and Phil Mitchell than the erotic heroes they wanted to be. Worse still was Karen Ruimy, who devised the show. She mooches around narrating the action and wishing she looked like Penelope Cruz (she doesn’t). What she does do is sing very, very badly.”

Review – The Seven Deadly Sins / Pierrot Lunaire

Sunday 29 April 2007

They were already in the building, so it wouldn’t be any bother. Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Faust

Monday 4 December 2006

faust.jpgImagine the alarm of the Wet End Whingers (who could easily generate sufficient material to fill a companion blog called West End Worriers) when greeted by this sign at the gates of the National Theatre/Punchdrunk production of Faust on Saturday night.

Would the building collapse around their ears? Did they have public liability insurance? Was a derelict warehouse likely to have a bar? Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Momix: Lunar Sea

Saturday 25 November 2006

The West End Whingers don’t really do much dance. When they do, it’s usually on tables and all ends in tears.

But last night Andrew was cajoled into joining WEW fans George and Renata for a night at the Peacock Theatre on London’s Kingsway to see dance troupe Momix’s latest offering: Lunar Sea.

Astonishingly, his only regret is that he didn’t see it earlier in the run so he could entreat you to go and see it (it closes tonight).
